Note: This event has already passed.

Americans and Canadians will battle each other for the title of champion and the trophy at the 68th annual St. Lawrence Cup International Golf Tournament, held Saturday and Sunday at the Thousand Islands Country Club.

The St. Lawrence Cup Tournament was established in 1951, and since then, the U.S. and Canada have taken turns hosting the event.

Each team is made up of 14 highly skilled players. The Fort Drum team is composed of active duty Soldiers, retired military, civilian employees or military spouses from the Fort Drum community, and the Canadian team is made up of military members and civilians from Kingston, Ontario.

The first day of the tournament will be played by seven teams of two battling each other, and the second day features 14 head-to-head matches. There are a total of 21 points to be earned in the tournament.

The players start with a practice round on Friday, August 2 to become familiar with the course. They will also enjoy a non-host social at Hacker's Restaurant on Friday evening.

The tournament on Saturday, August 3 is going to be played in a style called two man team, best score-match play. Instead of stroke play, where the winner is the team who has taken the most points over the course of the round, the tournament uses match play, a scoring system in which a team earns a point for each hole in which they have bested their opponents. Following Saturday's tournament the players will enjoy a prime rib dinner.

The individual head-to-head matches are played on Sunday, August 4. Following Sunday's head-to-head matches a BBQ will take place where the winning team will be announced.

Unlike most golf tournaments, there is no cash award or prizes for winning. The teams are playing for their country and bragging rights!

To be part of the Fort Drum team, you must show your handicap card to the Mr. Al Janssen at Magrath Sports Complex no later than July 26. Go to your local club golf professional to receive your handicap card if you do not currently have one. The top 14 handicaps will be considered for the Fort Drum team.

Registration will close on July 26.
