Magrath Pool is an eight-lane, 25-meter aquatic facility that serves the military community by promoting health, fitness, recreation, and water safety and is overseen by certified lifeguard staff. Facility features include ADA-accessible stairs for pool entry/exit, a 1-meter springboard, a 3-meter platform that is utilized for soldier trainings and male/female saunas. Open to all DoD ID cardholders, the pool offers a welcoming space for individuals and families to enjoy a variety of aquatic programs and activities.

Pool Rules

1.  All Patrons must enter the pool area through the locker rooms & shower before entering the pool. No street shoes allowed on the pool deck.

2. Never Swim Alone. There must be at least 2 lifeguards on duty to swim. Only use the pool during scheduled operating hours.

3. There is no substitute for adequate supervision. Youth under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. See youth policies for clarification. Lifeguards cannot supervise youth.

4. In an emergency, notify staff and contact 911 as soon as possible. A telephone is located in the pool office and at the front desk.

5.  Patrons of any age who cannot swim a length of the pool unassisted must stay in the shallow end. There are no exceptions.

6. Dive only in designated areas. Never dive in less than 8 feet of water. No backward or spinning entries into the water at any time.

7.  Use of starting blocks is prohibited except during competitive swimming or swimmer training activities. Please stay off.

8. No running, horseplay, dunking, shoving, etc.

9. Use Coast Guard approved personal floatation devices only. Patrons wearing a PFD must stay in the shallow end and be supervised by an adult in the water. Adults can supervise up to 3 youths in a PFD at a time. Adults must be within arms reach of the child in a PFD.

10.  Swim diapers are required for all children who are not toilet trained. All diapers must be changed at the changing station only.

11.  No inflatables. Per army regulations.

12.  No food or glass containers in the pool area at any time. Beverages in plastic containers are allowed on the deck. Food is allowed on the pool patio.

13.  Do not swim immediately after eating. Allow for adequate time before getting in the pool.

14.  No gum is allowed in the pool. Please dispose of before swimming.

15.  Anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be allowed in the pool.

16.  Unsanitary practices in the pool are prohibited. Nose blowing, spitting, urinating, etc.

17.  Patrons of all ages must wear a swimsuit.

18.  Fins, kickboards, pull buoys, masks with a nose piece and snorkels are to be used for lap swim only.

19.  No hyperventilation or extended underwater breath holding will be allowed period. These can result in shallow water blackout.

20.  Monitor your swimming time to prevent overexposure to you and your family. Swimming for long periods and pool temperatures can exhaust persons quicker than normal. Make sure you exit the pool before you become too exhausted or cold. Especially monitor small children.

21.  No swimming during thunderstorms. For the safety of all patrons, the pool and pool deck will be cleared during thunderstorms. The pool will reopen 30 minutes after the last observed flash of lightening or thunder.

22.  Pool staff have the right to restrict any activity they feel is hazardous to the safety of the pool personnel and patrons. Follow all lifeguard instructions.

These rules are not all inclusive and lifeguards my provide you with more information as needed. Check with staff if you have questions regarding these rules or unique situations.

Aquatics Programs

Soldier Physical Training
  • All 8 lanes are reserved Monday-Friday from 0600-0800 for Soldier Physical Training only and is closed to the general public.
  • Lanes are on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • No reservations will be made during these hours, including for unit PT.
  • No organized sports may take place, to include use of the basketball hoop.
  • The following equipment is available for use:
    • Kickboards
    • Pull buoys
    • Hand Paddles
    • Floatation Belts
    • Various Size OCP’s
    • Mats- These must be used for any land exercise done
    • Goggles (varies)
Active-Duty Swim Lessons

These lessons are designed specifically for active-duty soldiers only. Classes focus on water safety, skill development, and confidence in the water in a supportive environment.

Duration: As many times as preferred

Session length: 30 minutes

Instructor-to-student ratio: 1-1

Location: Magrath Pool (Lanes 7 & 8)

Curriculum Overview:

 American Red Cross Adult Swim Lesson Plans

  • Water acclimation & confidence
  • Basic strokes (freestyle, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, etc)
  • Survival skills (floating, treading)
  • Endurance & conditioning
  • Mission-specific drills (CWST components)

Reservation Process:

Stop into Magrath Pool or Call.

  • Reserve with any on duty lifeguard
  • Reservations may be made up to one week in advance
  • Check in at pool office upon arrival of scheduled lesson

Lesson Policies:

  • If you are late by 10 minutes or more, your reservation will be forfeited.
  • Three (3) no call/no shows will result in no booking for one (1) month from the last scheduled lesson.
  • To cancel or reschedule stop in or call.

Combat Water Survival Trainings

The aquatics department plays a critical role in supporting CWST’s by providing facilities and certified staff to help active-duty personnel meet water survival standards. Through safe, well-coordinated sessions and collaboration with unit leadership, the department ensures service members maintain the skills needed for operational readiness in aquatic environments.

Once the DRAW is received, we will reach back out to confirm details.

Lap & Open Swim

Dedicated pool time for independent swimming. Lap swim provides lanes for continuous exercise, while open swim allows individuals and families to enjoy the pool recreationally. Check with a lifeguard for lane assignment for these programs, reservations are not needed.

Classes Offered (American Red Cross)

Lifeguarding/ Waterfront Lifeguard- Provides participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over.

First Aid/CPR/AED- Helps participants recognize & respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing & first aid emergencies.

Basic Life Saving-Provides participants with the knowledge and skills they need to assess, recognize and care for patients who are experiencing respiratory arrest, cardiac arrest, airway obstruction or opioid overdose.
